What is an Arm Lift?

In Newport Beach, board-certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Sean Kelishadi understands that your busy schedule can get in the way of taking care of yourself. Bouts of stress and insufficient exercise add to the cycle of weight fluctuations. In some cases, patients have lost significant weight (for example, 100 pounds), but are left with excess fat or excessively loose skin in areas that exercise does not seem to touch, like the upper arm. SSK Plastic Surgery offers arm lift surgery to remove excess skin from the upper arm to create a slimmer profile that will compliment your shape.

Why Should I Receive an Arm Lift?

Although fat can be removed from problematic areas via liposuction, excessive skin remains. The skin hangs and shakes from beneath your upper arms, including when you wave. Excessive skin is unsightly, interferes with the fit of your clothing, but it can be surgically excised.

How is AN ARM LIFT Performed?

As your Orange County Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Kelishadi can perform various levels of brachioplasty, depending on the amount of loose skin to be removed. Severe cases that mimic wings require an extended arm lift. In many cases, liposuction is needed to reduce fat and improve contour in the areas of the arm that cannot be reached with our incision. In patients who have excess arm fat but tight skin, liposuction may be all that is needed. Together, we will discuss your goals and decide the most-effective strategy to achieve the look you desire.

  • Dr. Kelishadi will make an incision that may be limited or may extend from your armpit to your elbow. He will then tailor-tack the skin flaps that he raised and measure the ideal amount of excess skin to help you obtain a tight contour. This requires a fine balance because Dr. Kelishadi's goal is to achieve a “tension-free” closure so that your scars will heal nicely and minimize their widening over time.
  • Incisions for brachioplasty in Orange County are some of the least forgiving and meticulously planned to be difficult to see. Based on your skin and tissue quality, we will decide the ideal placement of your incisions so that scars 1) are as concealed as possible and 2) will heal properly.
  • Under average circumstances this is an outpatient procedure; stitches are removed 1 week later; after 4-6 weeks you may resume normal activities with your upper body.
  • During your recovery, Dr. Kelishadi and the staff at SSK Plastic Surgery will help you create a careful plan to ensure your safety and satisfaction.
